Exploring the Horror of The Red Sinden

Hi friends! ๐Ÿ’— Welcome back to my mini blog. How are you? Hope you’re doing well! This time, I want to share with you my number one favorite local webtoon that tells an Indonesian horror story. The story is related to Javanese culture that is still believed in today’s era.

Webtoon The Red Sinden by Rigelnaa is a local Indonesian horror webtoon. The story follows Susi, an office worker who accidentally becomes the victim of the Red Sinden’s curse.

The story begins when Susi joins a fun trip with her coworkers. During the trip, she gets lost and ends up at Ranu Astagiri, a lake that is actually forbidden for visitors. At the bottom of the lake lies a jewelry box containing a susuk konde, which serves as the seal of the Red Sinden’s spirit.

Without realizing the danger, Susi opens the box. As a result, the Red Sinden’s spirit attaches itself to her. From that moment on, every man who comes close to Susi dies tragically as their life energy is drained by the vengeful spirit.

Things get even worse when her coworkers begin to suspect her. They accuse Susi of using black magic or love charms to lure men, not knowing that everything happening is the result of the Red Sinden’s curse that now haunts her.

1. Characters

Susi

The main character and chosen victim of the Red Sinden. After unintentionally opening the jewelry box at Ranu Astagiri, she becomes possessed by the spirit, which causes a series of tragic deaths of men around her. Coming from a humble background, Susi is hardworking but socially withdrawn, making her seem mysterious to her coworkers.

Red Sinden

An evil spirit appearing as a woman in a red kebaya with pale skin and a terrifying smile. She was once a sinden (traditional singer) who died tragically after being betrayed and humiliated. Filled with hatred, her spirit was sealed inside the jewelry box with the susuk konde at the bottom of Ranu Astagiri.

Bayu
A kindhearted male nurse who accidentally gets involved in Susi’s curse. Even knowing the risks, he tries to help her break free from the Red Sinden. Bayu is caring, patient, and logical, but slowly gets dragged into the dark mystery of Ranu Astagiri.

Winda

The younger sister of one of the Red Sinden’s victims. Winda has a spiritual sight that allows her to see spirits. Unlike others who avoid Susi, she feels pity for her and tries to help. Her ability to communicate with spirits makes her the key, though it often drains her physically and mentally.

Mbah Cokro
An elder and guardian of Ranu Astagiri. He knows the origins of the Red Sinden and how the spirit was sealed. Wise and deeply knowledgeable in Javanese tradition and mysticism, he guides Susi, Bayu, and Winda through the horrors of the curse.

2. Setting

a. Ranu Astagiri – Supernatural Horror

A quiet lake hidden deep in the forest, far from human activity. Its surface looks calm like glass, but beneath lies a chilling, sinister aura. This is where Susi accidentally opens the jewelry box and unleashes the Red Sinden.

b. Susi’s Office – Social Horror
The workplace becomes a symbol of social isolation. Once a safe place, it turns into a space full of tension and suspicion. Her coworkers accuse her of using black magic after several men die mysteriously around her.

c. Mental Hospital – Psychological Horror
The climax of psychological tension. As Susi’s condition worsens under the influence of the Red Sinden, she ends up being treated in a mental hospital. It becomes a space between “sanity” and “madness,” reflecting Susi’s struggle between reality and the spirit’s control.

3. Plot & Style

        The Red Sinden
has a plot that is smooth yet thrilling, like slowly riding a roller coaster before being hit with a terrifying climax at the end. The language used is simple and easy for readers to understand. Beyond the horror, the story teaches us the importance of helping those in need, because sometimes we might be their last hope.

4. Personal Reactions

In my opinion, The Red Sinden by Rigelnaa truly succeeds in bringing out the unique Indonesian horror atmosphere that we rarely find in other webtoons. What I find most interesting is how the story combines Javanese myths with modern life, making it feel both familiar and frightening at the same time. The character Susi is very relatable as an ordinary person who suddenly has to face something beyond reason. I also like the presence of Bayu and Winda, which makes this story not only about horror, but also about humanity and struggle.

What I like most is that this story is not just about showing ghosts or curses to scare readers, but it also carries a deep moral message. From Susi’s experience, we can learn that empathy and care for others are truly important. Sometimes, people who seem “strange” or are avoided by others are actually struggling with invisible burdens. For me, this message is very relevant to our everyday life.

Overall, The Red Sinden is not only a mysterious horror story, but also a reflection on human relationships, culture, and empathy. This story managed to make me tense, shiver, and reflect at the same time. I became curious about how Susi’s story will end: will she be free from the curse and find happiness, or will she be further trapped in darkness? What is certain is that reading The Red Sinden has made me realize that local horror can be this powerful and meaningful. I hope that in the future there will be more webtoons that highlight Indonesian culture.

5. Criticism & Appreciation

One thing that I still find a bit inconvenient is the trakteer or subscription system to support the author of The Red Sinden. Unlike official Webtoon Originals where we can simply top up coins through the app, here we have to go through an external trakteer platform. This is understandable since The Red Sinden is still under Webtoon Canvas, yet it still makes the process of giving support feel less practical for readers, like taking a detour when the main road should have been open.

However, beyond this small technical drawback, I truly admire Rigelnaa’s courage as the author in bringing a horror story that carries the essence of Javanese culture. Blending traditional customs into a horror narrative is not an easy task, especially since cultural themes can often be sensitive. Yet through The Red Sinden, Rigelnaa manages to deliver it with respect (like weaving an ancient melody into a modern song) creating a story that is not only terrifying, but also meaningful and relevant for today’s readers.

Conclusion

The Red Sinden is not just an ordinary horror story with a terrifying ghost figure, but a tale that carries a deeper meaning about how humans should respect and support one another. Behind the fear that creeps in while reading, lies a strong reminder about the importance of empathy: that everyone may carry unseen wounds or burdens, and even a little kindness can mean the world to them.

The story also emphasizes that hatred and vengeance only give birth to more suffering, just as the Red Sinden herself embodies. On the other hand, characters like Bayu, Winda, and Mbah Cokro prove that hope will always exist when people choose to help instead of judge. This is what makes The Red Sinden more profound than just a horror story meant to scare or thrill, it becomes a mirror reflecting the values of humanity hidden beneath the shadows.

In the end, this tale invites us to wonder, Will Susi ever break free from the curse that binds her? or will she be swallowed further into the darkness? And is there perhaps a faint glimmer of redemption for the vengeful Red Sinden? These questions hang in the air like whispers in the night, urging us to keep reading until the very last page, to experience not only the chilling horror but also the timeless message of compassion that flickers like a candle in the dark.

Almost every post includes photos, which makes the writing more lively, varied, and enjoyable to read.

Fashion Trend: Thrifting Among Young People ๐Ÿ‘•✨

Lately, the word thrifting has become increasingly popular among the younger generation. It’s not just about buying secondhand clothes anymore, thrifted outfits have turned into a unique style, especially with the vintage look that many young people love.

Today’s youth enjoy thrifting because of its affordable prices. Many of them don’t have a job yet, buying cheaper but still stylish clothes is the right choice. Through thrifting, they can get branded or unique clothes at a lower price than in the stores. ๐Ÿ’ธ

Thrift collections are also very unique and not mainstream. This makes young people even more interested in buying them. Thrift often features vintage styles or models that are rarely found in malls, making it easier for young people to stand out without spending too much. ๐Ÿ‘—๐Ÿงฅ

The vintage style trend also makes thrifting more popular today.

In my opinion, thrifting has many positive impacts, such as being eco-friendly ๐ŸŒฑ, offering great business opportunities ๐Ÿ’ผ, and serving as an alternative to fast fashion. However, there are also downsides, especially regarding cleanliness and hygiene. Imported secondhand clothes are often linked to hygiene issues, so buyers need to be extra careful. Besides, not all thrifted items are still in good condition, as many stained or flawed clothes are still sold.

I hope this trend can grow in a healthier and more responsible way. Sellers should be more selective in sorting items, while buyers should also be wiser in choosing. That way, thrifting won’t just be a budget-friendly and stylish lifestyle, but also a movement that supports more sustainable and eco-conscious fashion. ๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’š

The Downsides of Studying at a State Islamic University in Western East Java๐Ÿ“‰

Every campus has its pros and cons, and the one where I currently study is no exception. As a student, I’ve had plenty of good experiences here, but there are also some downsides that I think are worth sharing. After all, we all want to study in a comfortable environment, right? So here are a couple of weaknesses I’ve noticed on my campus.

1. Facilities Aren’t Always Equal๐Ÿ“‰

Some of the buildings are nice and modern, but the faculty building where I study still feels lacking. The classrooms get pretty hot, and even though the tuition is around 4 million IDR, we don’t get air conditioning. My class only has one fan, and there’s no smart board to make lessons easier to follow.

2. A Campus Website That’s Not Very Reliable๐ŸŒ

Since everything is going digital nowadays, I think universities should really step up their online services. Unfortunately, the website at my campus still crashes or shows errors, especially during important times. For example, when paying tuition, the system often shows “unpaid” even though the money has already been transferred. This messes up our course registration since we can’t continue until the payment status is updated.

Still, despite these weaknesses, I think studying here is a valuable experience. I just hope that in the future the facilities, administration, and digital services will get better, so students like me can feel more comfortable and make the most of our time at university.๐Ÿ’—

✨ Shining in Your Way: Love Your Self ✨

Have you ever felt like you’re not good enough? Maybe you’ve thought, “She’s smarter than me,” or “I’ll never be as beautiful as her.” The truth is, you already have everything inside you to shine. You don’t need to copy anyone else to be valuable.

The challenge many women face today is comparison. Social media makes it so easy to see other people’s achievements, beauty, lifestyle, and success. While it can be inspiring, it often leads us to believe that we are less. But here’s the reminder you need: your worth is not defined by how you compare to others, but by how true you are to yourself.

๐ŸŒธ Step One: Love Yourself First (Self-Acceptance)

Self-acceptance is not about ignoring your flaws, but about embracing your whole self  (the good and the imperfect parts).

Psychologist Ikhsan Bella Persada, M.Psi., explains that self-acceptance means responding to situations positively and learning to forgive yourself for the past. He adds, “Being able to accept painful experiences as part of the learning process, appreciating yourself, and not blaming yourself or the situation are forms of self-acceptance.”

Think of it this way: holding onto guilt, shame, or mistakes only keeps you stuck. Letting go gives you freedom to move forward. When you accept yourself, you stop fighting with who you are and start living as who you are meant to be.

Being yourself is powerful. When you stop pretending to be perfect, you gain energy to grow authentically and that’s where true beauty begins.

๐ŸŒธ Step Two: Keep Growing

Loving yourself doesn’t mean staying in your comfort zone or indulging in endless self-care without progress. True self-love is about growth. It’s about saying, “I deserve better, so I will learn, I will improve, I will rise.”

Take that online class you’ve been postponing, apply for that opportunity, or simply challenge yourself to learn something new every day. Growth is proof of love, not only for your future but also for the amazing person you are becoming.

๐ŸŒธ Simple Tips You Can Try Right Now

  • Know Your Value
Write down three things that make you unique. Like, skills, strengths, or qualities. This will remind you that you bring something important to the world.

  • Write Positive Affirmations
Start your morning with empowering words:
“I am valuable. I am enough. I am capable of growing.”
These affirmations will train your mind to see yourself in a kinder, stronger light.

  • Celebrate Small Wins
Stop waiting for “big success” to feel proud. Every small step like, finishing a task, learning a new skill, or simply choosing to rest deserves recognition. Small wins create momentum toward bigger victories.

๐ŸŒธ

Every woman has her own unique light. You don’t need to follow someone else’s path or prove yourself by copying their journey. When you embrace who you are both your strengths and your imperfections you unlock a kind of confidence that no one can take away.

Loving yourself is not selfish. In fact, it is the foundation for everything else: healthier relationships, stronger confidence, and greater opportunities. The world doesn’t need another “perfect copy” of someone else. It needs the real you.

So today, promise yourself this:

  • I will stop comparing my journey to others.

  • I will honor my value and celebrate my growth.

  • I will shine in my own way.

Because the world is waiting for your light. And when you shine, you give permission for others to shine too.

Remember: your light is unique. Keep shining in your way, the world needs it.

Personal Branding: Why Students Should Build It Early

Personal branding is the process of creating an individual image that includes all the ways someone presents themselves to shape how the public perceives them. Personal branding is not about pretending to be someone else or simply creating a false image. Instead, it is about building an authentic story of who we truly are and how we want to be recognized in the global professional world.

In today’s digital era, it is easier than ever to develop personal branding. There are many platforms to use, such as professional networks like LinkedIn, visual media like Instagram and TikTok, video platforms like YouTube, text-based platforms like Medium or personal websites, and microblogging platforms like X.

Why should students build personal branding early?

1. Attracting Universities and Scholarship Providers
In the digital age, many universities and scholarship organizations do not only look at academic performance such as GPA. They also pay attention to how students present themselves, whether through social media, online portfolios, or organizational activities. Strong personal branding can be a “showcase” that highlights your quality, potential, and commitment to your chosen field.

For example, students who actively share their writing, research, or social projects on social media are more likely to get noticed. Personal branding also plays a big role in motivation essays, recommendation letters, and even your digital footprint. One study found that well-structured personal stories can increase acceptance chances by up to 30%. This means if you can clearly communicate who you are, what you believe in, and what you want to achieve, you already stand out.

2. Competing Across Universities and Countries
In globalization, competition among students is no longer limited to your own classroom or campus. You must now be ready to compete with graduates from other universities, even from other countries. This happens because access to education, job opportunities, and international programs is becoming more open worldwide.

This situation can be both a challenge and an opportunity. The challenge is that the standards are higher, but the opportunity is to prove yourself at a global level. A strong personal brand helps students stand out among many candidates with similar academic backgrounds. A clear, authentic, and professional self-image can be an extra value that makes you more attractive to recruiters, scholarship providers, and international academic partners.

3. Strengthening Professional Profiles Early
Building personal branding as a student gives you a strong foundation for your professional profile. Today’s job market does not only consider diplomas or grades but also how you show your identity, skills, and integrity in public spaces. Social media, digital portfolios, and organizational experience can all serve as platforms for this.

Platforms like LinkedIn have become gateways for professionals worldwide. Building your personal brand early means filling your LinkedIn profile with organizational experience, volunteer projects, online courses, and achievements. With a strong personal brand, you can:

  • Become a preferred candidate for internships, collaborations, or part-time jobs

  • Connect with mentors and professionals around the world

  • Secure job opportunities even before graduation

Steps to Build a Personal Brand

1. Self-Discovery: Know Yourself, Find Your Uniqueness
Strong personal branding starts with self-awareness. Before you can show the world who you are, you need to know yourself first. Reflect on these key questions:

  • What are my biggest interests? What excites me even outside the classroom?

  • What skills set me apart? (both hard skills and soft skills)

  • What values do I want to stand for? (integrity, sustainability, innovation, etc.)

  • What are my long-term goals? Where do I see myself in 5 or 10 years?

2. Build a Professional Digital Presence
Today, your digital footprint is your professional business card. Make sure your main platforms reflect the image you want to show:

  • LinkedIn: Update your bio with an engaging summary, add organizational or project experience, and use the “Featured” section to highlight your portfolio.

  • Personal Website/Blog: Share your projects, research, or learning journey. Use platforms like Medium, WordPress, or Substack.

  • Social Media: Share insights on Instagram/X, create educational or project-based videos on YouTube, and keep your branding consistent across platforms.

3. Create Inspiring Content

Your personal brand grows through the value you share:

  • Blog posts about your student journey or study tips

  • Videos like “A Day in My Life as a Student”

  • Infographics with study or career insights

  • Podcasts discussing your field of interest

Today’s academic and professional world requires us not only to be smart but also to be visible and recognized. Personal branding is the key for your contributions to be seen globally. Don’t wait until graduation, start now. Build an authentic narrative about yourself, share it with the world, and let opportunities come to you. Your future is waiting for the personal brand you create today.

Introduction

Hi there! Welcome to my very first little post ๐Ÿ’—

In my first post I just wanna share a bit about myself. My name is Salma Tanwirul Fuadah (you can call me Sal, Mon, Ama, Salmik, or Umik, that's what my friends usually do), I’m 19, and I live in Blitar.

So, what am I gonna share here? Well… I really love the sea. Every time I see the sea, I feel calm and free, it’s like the sea has this quiet magic that heals me, washes away my worries, and reminds me how small but also how alive I am. I think sea is my peace place. ๐ŸŒŠ

~Nglinci beach
~Pacar beach

~Tanjung Benoa beach

~Molang beach

When I’m having a bad day, I usually cook. I’m not really good at it, but I just enjoy the process hehe.

Another fun fact about me is I eat tomatoes every single day! ๐Ÿ… If I don’t eat one, it feels like something inside me is missing. Tomatoes are honestly my mood savior, and they’re actually good for your skin too, so I totally recommend eating them regularly!

Thanks for stopping by and reading my first post. Hope you enjoy being here as much as I enjoy writing here, XoXo๐Ÿ’‹๐Ÿ’ซ
